History of this textbook series
The textbook Optical Document Security discusses numerous aspects of the optical characteristics of security devices embedded in the document substrate, the various security inks applied, the printed security patterns and the additional foil types containing metallic effects, diffractive and thin film interference features and micro-optics.
The 1st edition appeared in 1994 and contains chapters written by peers in the security industry, including 4 chapters by the editor.
The 2nd edition appeared in 1998 and again contains chapters written by peers in the security industry, including 6 chapters by the editor.
The 3rd edition appeared in 2005 and is fully authored by R.L. van Renesse.

All editions contain an appendix with samples of security features donated by the security industry.
